Deputy Sheriff in Louisiana exposed as a member of the Proud Boys, a hate group

The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana terminated Deputy Sheriff Brian Green after he was exposed as a member of the Proud Boys, a violent hate group.

The Internal Affairs office of the Sheriff’s department began an investigation into Green in early August after the department received a complaint about the him. The offending posts in question included Green’s Facebook profile listing as a "Deputy Sheriff, Father, Proud Boy" in the intro section. Green removed the description, as well as a self-recorded cell phone video in which he appears to recite the Proud Boys oath. Green was also listed as an administrator of “Proud Boys Louisiana Vetting Page.”

Days after the announcement of the investigation, Green was terminated from the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office. "Green’s affiliation and promotion of the organization known as the Proud Boys while in uniform inevitably affected the public trust bestowed upon him and questioned the values of the Sheriff's Office," Sheriff's Department officials said in a statement following his firing.

The Proud Boys have a history of violent confrontation and harassment, and their organizing principles explicitly espouse a worldview steeped in “Western Chauvinism.”
