The GOP's Campaign Arm Officially Backs Antisemitic Congressional Candidate

On September 25, 2020, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) donated $5,000 — the maximum amount it can legally give to a candidate — to Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican congressional candidate who is running unopposed.

Greene is an openly antisemitic, Islamophobic, racist, QAnon-believing conspiracy theorist. Although House Republican leadership initially condemned Greene, they did an abrupt about-face as soon as she won the Republican primary. Not long after Greene won her primary, her Democratic opponent dropped out of the race. Two weeks later, the NRCC invested the maximum amount in her campaign.

As the sole candidate in the race to represent Georgia’s 14th Congressional District, Greene is all but certain to win the general election. The NRCC’s donation was by no means necessary to get her over the finish line, suggesting that the donation was instead a demonstration of party support for Greene and her extremist views.

The Republican Party has officially and openly become the party of QAnon.
